About Us

Hudgel’s Helping Families Since 1964

 Family Owned and Operated

The Hudgels have a tradition of coming alongside families in their time of need. For over 50 years and three generations we have treated families the way we would want to be treated.

Richard Hudgel, our grandfather, founded our first Hudgel family funeral home in Iowa in the 1930’s. It was during the Depression, and the family furniture business was housed in the same building to make ends meet.
Our father, Edwin, continued the tradition, opening the first Arizona Hudgel family funeral home in 1959 in Wilcox. In 1964 he moved to Tucson, purchased the land, and built the Hudgel family funeral building that still stands today at 1335 South Swan Road. Brothers Brian and Warren have maintained the Hudgel family tradition of quality, affordable service, and helping families with care and compassion in their time of need.

I have had the pleasure of meeting and knowing both funeral directors for many years. Their family owned facility is very nice, prices are extremely reasonable, everything was explained and the service was incredible. They are compassionate, helpful and a credit to their profession. I was very fortunate to be able to turn to them in such a crisis and cannot “Thank” them enough!

Providing Love In Hard Times

Staff members of Hudgel’s Swan Funeral Home are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors.

Brian Hudgel, Funeral Director

I graduated Sahuaro High School in the class of 1974. After High School I moved to the Bay Area and enrolled in the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1978. I then returned to Tucson to join my father, Edwin, and brother, Warren, in the family business. As a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer for 40 years, my approach to Funeral Service has always been to treat people the way I would want to be treated.

My wife Linda and I live in Northeast Tucson and enjoy the beautiful Saguaros and wildlife. My hobbies include gardening and riding Italian motor scooters. I also enjoy music, mainly the good old bands with San Francisco roots.

Warren Hudgel, Funeral Director

Our family moved here from Sioux City Iowa area in 1959. I have been actively working at the Funeral Home since my father built it in 1964, whether it was after school or on the weekends. After graduating from Palo Verde High School in 1964 I immediately enrolled in Commonwealth College of Mortuary Science in Houston, Texas. Upon returning to Tucson I have been working at the Mortuary professionally for over 50 years. After seeing all the changes in the industry over the years, I still believe in our cornerstones of  24/7 Services and reasonable rates.

In my personal time; I’m an advocate for the disabled in our community, an avid University of Arizona basketball fan and lover of pugs. I also enjoy experiencing the many wonderful new restaurants throughout the Tucson area.
