Obituary For A. Carolyn Peacock

A. Carolyn Peacock, 91, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2024, after a short illness.

Carolyn was born on January 18, 1933, to Samuel and Theresa (MacCall) Bradeen in Milo, Maine. She was the youngest of seven children. Carolyn graduated from Milo High School in 1951, and she went on to study education at the Farmington State Teacher’s College in Farmington, Maine.

After graduation with a degree in education, she started teaching in Jonesport, Maine where she met her husband Conrad Peacock of 44 years. They moved to Virgil, New York in 1962 where they lived for 33 years. After a full career of teaching, Carolyn retired from Marathon Central School District in Marathon, New York in 1988.

From 1989 to 2021, Conrad and Carolyn volunteered at several National Parks, Seashores, and Forest Sites throughout the United States. Among the sites, they were campground hosts for 7 seasons at Daniel Boone National Forest in London, Kentucky. They spent 7 seasons at Bodie Island Lighthouse on Cape Hatteras National Seashore, North Carolina doing turtle patrol and lighthouse duties before ending their volunteering at Saguaro National Park, Rincon Mountain District. After Conrad’s passing in 2002, Carolyn continued volunteering at Saguaro until 2016 totaling 17 years at Saguaro. When asked what she did at the park, Carolyn would reply, “I do my favorite thing. I tell people where to go.” It was always followed with her cute smile.

Carolyn was a lifetime Girl Scout. In the 1970s and 1980s, she was the “cookie monster” for several years in Central New York State. She enjoyed driving the girls to all parts of Cortland County, so no house or farm missed an opportunity to have Girl Scout cookies.

She was a member of the Aldworth Chapter #39 OES of the Eastern Star in Milo, Maine, since a young woman.

Carolyn was an active Alter Guild member at Calvary Episcopal Church in Homer, New York for several years before moving to Tucson in 1995. Once in Tucson, she became a member of St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church, where she attended the 7:45am service for many years. She was an active Altar Guild member, Usher, and Eucharistic Minister until a few years ago. One of Carolyn’s favorite jobs at St Michaels was helping preparing the church’s famous Angel Food Candy. Year after year she would help with the candy in the morning and volunteer at Saguaro in the afternoon.

Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Conrad H. Peacock; sisters Regina (Bradeen) Livers and Evelyn (Bradeen) Page; brothers Joseph, Frederick, Carl, and infant Paul Bradeen; nieces Priscilla “Honeybear” (Livers) Wampler, Cathryn (Bradeen) Knox, and Karen (Page) Chapman Rigsby; and great nephew Peter Bradeen.

She is survived by her daughter, Kelli Peacock of Tucson; 9 nephews, 5 nieces, along with 3 generations of their children in Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Virginia, Maryland, and New Mexico. Carolyn was the last of her and Conrad’s generation.

She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched. Her sense of humor, generosity, dedication, and practicality were among her greatest assets.

Services will be held at St. Michaels and All Angels on May 11, 2024, at 9am. There will be a reception after the funeral service. Donations may be made to St. Michaels and All Angels Episcopal Church, 602 N. Wilmot, Tucson, AZ 85711.
