Obituary For Ronald Lee Coughenour

75 years of being being radical... Ronald Lee Coughenour, age 75, suddenly passed away on Wednesday July 27, 2022, in his new home in Tucson, Arizona. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. Ron was born on February 21, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio to Raymond and Phyllis (Lee) Coughenour. He grew up in the greater Dayton area and was a proud Beavercreek Beaver Class of 1965. He attended Otterbein College for two years before making his way to Plymouth, Vermont with his good friend, where he started cooking at the Farm and Wilderness Camp. He met his late wife, Reeta (Colton d.1997), while driving the school bus for band trips at Proctor High School in the 70's. Ron and reeta married in 1976, built their home together in Pittsfield, Vermont, and had two daughters. Ron, amongst many other things, was a member of the P.V.F.D., a successful business owner and bus river for many years. Ron was a devoted single father for 15 years, attending all of his daughters concerts and music trips, In 2012 he reconnected with his middle school sweetheart Bonnie (Beal) Stephens. They spent the next decade traveling the country in their RV. On June28, 2021, the "Serendipitous Sojourns" were wed in the Smoky Mountains surrounded by his family. Ron is survived by his wife Bonnie (Beal) Stephens(and her family of Loveland Ohio) His daughters Carrie (Gordon) Kohl (grandkids Geoffrey and Sophia) and Gabrielle Coughenour of Pittsfield, VT. He is also survived by his brother R. John(Christie) Coughenour of Proctor, VT., his sister Pamela (JR) Gaines of Beavercreek, OH and his many nieces, nephews and cousins. A Celebration of life will be held Saturday September 17, 2022, with a Memorial Service starting at 2:00 PM at the Pittsfield Federated Church in Pittsfield, Vermont.     I was saddened to see this news. I remember Ron from when he first started driving our bus to basketball games at Proctor High. We watched as he and our beloved band teacher, Reeta Colton became an item and then got married. Ron was part of the team. I'm sure he will be sorely missed. Linda Anderson, PHS '78

    Ron will be missed by so many. He was a wonderful human with a thunderous laugh that was loved by all. My heart breaks for his girls and their step mom.     I too will miss Ron. I send My condolences for his family. His hugs always brought lots of love and joy! He shared some similar life challenges and gave me strength.     We will miss Ron. He and Bonnie had ten wonderful loving years together. We'll always remember the good times with them at the Lancaster Festival, beaching in Florida, and Christmas in Tucson(2021). Ron loved wearing his shorts and sandals no matter how cool it was. Ron and Judy Beal
